The rolling chassis are hand built on a small volume production line in the UK to very tight and exacting tolerances. Identical build quality is important to ensure interchangeability of parts, especially in the middle of the North African deserts. This car is based around a tubular steel roll cage fitted with a 225 litre fuel tank a BMW 3 litre turbo charged diesel engine, three spare wheels and tyres and Land Rover running gear. Engine management is provided by Rally Raid's own control system making use of the BMW common rail interface allowing for control and diagnosis of many engine features many miles from your local BMW dealer.
